Deadly serious, outstanding management and safety first !!!
The two passionate, Marianne and Sarah, take care of customers trying to feel at ease every times.
With a snow suit and a pair of snow boots, you ride into a mini van through the Fjords trying to catch Northern Lights … Sarah and Mariannes took us to a secret place, a private shelter into a fire basket (brasero) warmed up while we are waiting the green lights. All is set up to eat and drink all the night especially hot chocolate !
The group we were (for the Aurora Tour : 4 persons + Sarah), maintained us awakening by talking and laughing all the night around the fire and of course outside ! Although in the middle of the night, the secret place was majestic ! Surrounding by mountains, water, some village lights, the Milky Way… definitely a magical place and an unforgettable evening !
The Auroras came around midnight and it was surreal ! We didn’t expect to see them and it finally happened.
After their flows, Sarah drove to another place, higher in the mountains, to catch even more. We finally came back around 2:00 am in the morning at the city center.
At 9:00 am, we started the Day Tour with Marianne (5 persons + the driver). We made a Tour of the Fjords in a mini van. We stopped every time (and every time as you want) to contemplate and take photos of the landscape. From hours on hours through the mountains, the scenery was different. Some place was astonishing. Even we went back to the place where the shelter was, by day it was breathtaking !
As a conclusion, if you want to book a serious company for your Northern Lights Tour in Tromsø : you can go with your eyes closed in other words I strongly recommend !!!
with Marianne was nothing short of perfect. Her expertise and passion for the northern lights was very obvious from the outset and we didn’t have to travel far at all to find absolutely incredible aurora (as you can see by thr pictures). Her knowledge of the local area and the best spots as well as her expertise in reading apace weather reports made for an incredible evening. Marianne is a wonderful person to spend time with and really looked after us with plenty of snacks, soup, sandwiches, biscuits etc! The rest of her team were also a delight and just as enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We cant wait to get back to Tromso and spend another evening in her compony under the amazing Arctic sky.
If you are looking to have a one of a kind northern light chase then Marianne’s is the one for you. Not only did we see amazing northern lights but we travelled to picturesque locations to capture photos. Mid way we stopped at her Cabin by the beach where she put up a fire and we grilled sausages. She even had hot soup, cookies and cheese sandwiches for us. It was such a great experience and Mariannes is such an amazing lady who gave us camera equipment, SD card and warm snow suit, gloves and shoes. We definitely have lots of beautiful photos from the tour. Next time we are in Tromsø we are definitely going with her again.
My friend and I did three Aurora Chaser Tours at the end of November 2019.
Though the aurora activity wasn’t super strong, we had three wonderful nights.
The 3rd night was absolutely amazing as we were able to stay in the Tromsø region where the scenery is truly heaven on earth. Marianne knows everything about photography, and she is able to help everybody – no matter what camera and what level. She is also able to supply you with snowsuits, tripods, torches etc. Her assistant Sarah is also very sweet, and service minded. Marianne goes the extra mile to make you happy. She made so many extra stops, and we stayed out longer than anyone else. While waiting for the aurora to appear we had lots of fun doing light painting.
I highly recommend Marianne’s Heaven On Earth Aurora Chaser Tours. I can’t wait to come back.
We also did a daytrip, where Marianne showed us some very nice places on Kvaløya.
I’ve done a few photographer-centric tours now in my travels, and rarely have I seen a guide go to the lengths that Marianne has to help her clients get the shot – and have a good time while doing so! I booked a combination tour, seeing the fjords by day and then aurora chasing in the evening. On both, Marianne weaved together a tour of the jaw-dropping landscape with stories of growing up in the area and interesting tidbits about what we were viewing. We topped it off with a visit to a local market to learn about and try a bit of smoked salmon, a staple of the Norwegian diet and a major part of local economy. We she learned a few of my reindeer photos didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped, she even offered to schedule a repeat run the following day – though I wasn’t able to take her up on it, the offer was generous all the same.
The aurora chase in particular was once in a lifetime; we were out on her private stretch of shoreline half the night waiting for the “dance” to come in. Long after other tour groups departed, we had a cozy fire, plenty to eat, and a hut to keep warm. Boy, did our wait pay off! My camera is chock full of spectacular imagery of the stars, mountains, and aurora — thanks to the tips and recommendations she gave me on how to make the most out of my equipment. Afterward Marianne gave one of our group a memory card full of images she herself had taken on her camera as a gift when she saw they only had their phones. Be warned though: this is a proper night to see all of this, so rest up and expect to be out past midnight. As Marianne said, “Nature doesn’t work on a schedule.” Thank god for the cold weather gear she provided! Oh, and the hot chocolate and food was delicious!
Thank you so much. Next time I’m in town I’ll be sure to use her company again.
My friend Stephanie and I came to Tromsø to see the Aurora and we were NOT disappointed! We went on 1 Chasing light Tour with Sara and Marianne, but the Aurora wasn’t very cooperative that night, and we enjoyed ourselves so much we went on a Fjord tour the next morning with Sara and then a second Chasing lights Tour with Marianne. It was small group tours and they made us feel so special . We are so lucky to have been able to meet them. You will be so well taken care of you cannot have a bad experience. We were given snow suits to keep our bodies warm and delicious homemade soup to warm our hearts…Cozy campfire for roasting sausages and toasting marshmallows…Seriously, I wouldn’t trade the experience I had on these tours for anything. You can feel the love and passion Marianne has for what she does.
These pictures would NEVER have been available to me without Marianne’s kind assistance! Tusen Takk!!
I hope you get the opportunity to be a part of this experience…
You won’t regret it and I will NEVER forget it.
Aside from the northern lights themselves, the tour was amazing. Marianne was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I was extremely happy to be able to rent a camera from her to use for the excursion as I didn’t have any of my equipment with me. Additionally, grilling sausages and grilled cheeses on an open flame to go with our soup was a nice touch and a great way to warm up for a bit. The hot chocolate at the last stop was delicious and a nice treat to conclude the tour. I cannot stress enough how much I enjoyed this tour.
This was an excellent trip which we highly recommend, and would do again! Marianne has grown up in the region and knows it like the back of her hand. As such she has been able to establish a programme that really focuses on giving her guests both a local and connected feel, combined with the magnificence of the northern lights. She is knowledgable about the auroras, and though never promising anything her knowledge ensures that you have the best chance possible to see a wonderful show. Marianne is also an accomplished photographer so for those who are amateurs to professionals, she is able to assist on a variety of levels.
Marianne is an expert in what sh does, finding the aurora borealis! You will have an unbelievable experience booking the tour with her. She is a perfect host….doing her utmost to make it an unforgettable night. We were amazed by every single minute. A big thank you – we will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful trip and saw amazing northern lights. We were provided with snow suits that kept us warm. Our guide Ben was very nice and helped us adjust the camera settings to take beautiful pictures. My highlight was having a bonfire with veggy sausages under the northern lights. One of the most special nights of my life!
We were so lucky to experience the northern lights in February 2022 with Marianne and her team. She is going above and beyond to provide her customers with an unforgettable experience. She provides all the gear you need in order not to freeze your feet off. A really big plus is that she has her own private plot of land at a fjord, which is ideally located to take pictures. In her small cabin there is a bon fire and we were treated on sausages (including vegan food), cheese sandwiches, soup, coffee, tea and small hamburgers. With minus 15 degrees Celcius this comes as a nice break. But since you are there to take pictures, the most important is that she helps out with camera settings, advice on exposures etc. In the meantime, she alerts you not to forget to admire and be at awe with this amazing natural phenomenon. The tour ends with some additional hot chocolate milk.
You will rarely find very few people who are as passionate about their work as Marianne. Agreed, that the work involves embarking on scenic adventures but still.
We went on a day long road trip from Tromso to Senja via Finssnes. Marianne was very warm, funny and knew all the best places to stop for pictures and made sure we had a blast. She treated us with yummy sandwiches and soup and stopped at the famous devil’s teeth so that we had a view.
On our way back, we were lucky to have spotted the Northern Lights and as passionate she is, she stopped the car , got us in warm suits(it was minus 10 °C) and we clicked amazing pictures.
If you really want to have an amazing holiday with an amazing person who knows so much about the tromso region, you should definitely choose this tour.
Fyi , she is also an awesome photographer.
it was a wonderful experience. our guide was nice and helpful, ready to help adjust the camera settings to get the best shot. you are provided with coveralls to keep warm. wonderful company and a beautiful northern lights in an unforgettable landscape. thank you very much!
What a lovely trip, we drove out to Kvaløya about an 1,5 hour before we hiked for ten minutes before we sat down and made a bonfire. We had a beautiful panorama view of the mountains lit up by the moonlight waiting for the northern lights to show up, and when they did it was amazing! Really recommend this trip, we also got warm clothing which was nice. We got to meet Marianne and her dog Kara, both were really pleasant and Marianne took a picture of our group together. 10/10, would do it again.
She has some great locations she visits locally on the day time tours, and for the night time tours, assuming the northern lights are visibile locally. We have been on both day and night time tours with Marianne.
She goes above and beyond on both tours to help her guests get out of the tours what they want.
If no lights locally she will travel further afield. On the last visit we went across the border into Finland.
It was a long night but worth it.
She is very knowledable on camera set-up and how to get the best photos.
On the last day time tour we went out on, we ended up being out a couple of extra hours as Marianne had heard there were moose we might see, and we did.
A very happy your group.
Highly recommend Marianne and her tours.
Marianne’s tour was amazing! She is a true passionate about what she does. Also I really like her personally… I bought her photoshoot tour and she took amazing pictures. It took a while to see the aurora but she really drove us around very patiently and confident and we did see it after a few hours driving around. Also nice hut and meals! You are great Mari! Love from Brazil- Colorado
An amazing experience true to the description of the tour. Marianne’s endeavor and passion is unchallenged and she does the best to ensure that her clients always get more than the usual expectations. She keeps safety on top of the list and provided everyone with fluorescent jackets, warm overalls, shoes and gloves. Also offered us hot soup, sandwiches and hot cocoa. We had quite a grand display of the northern lights and she knew all the best locations for it !
We were a group of 6 + Marianne she is
very passionate and after so many nights, still in awe about the phenomenon! ❤️
In few words : it was awesome, very beautiful and a stunning experience.
We felt like on a private family trip and didn’t really want to call it a night, till 2 in the morning. But we had to, because next day, we had already booked a new excursion.
We went with a bigger group two days before, but you can’t compare it in any way to this.
Thank you two again, for this Night and the great spots you brought us, to see clear, with the naked eye, Lady Aurora in her full Beauty.
We couldn’t stop taking pictures.
Mine were taken with my Realme 2 and my foot/boot instead of a tripod 😊.
We are definitely coming back and recommend this Tour, with this really lovely people, as one of the Top 10 Things on your To-Do-List in Tromsø!
Tusen takk og vi kommer tilbake! ❤️🙋🏼♀️

The evening was great fun! Excellent preparation by Marianne regarding extra warm snow suits, camera equipment, warm food and beverage. If you book a Aurora Tour take this one! You will never forget about the great time.
I went to a safari with Marianne to chase Aurora borealis, we started the trip at 8:00 pm from Tromso till 5:Am.
The trip was supposed to be only 6 hours but Marianne drives 10 hours way back from Tromso till Finland to chase this beautiful dancing lady aurora and give us a chance to see it.
We stopped everytime we found a spot with a clear sky : forests and lakes with magnificent starry sky.
On our way back by chance she could caption it on camera but wasn’t that strong just a little tiny one.
It was one of my best life experience, being so far, on night roads, chasing aurora, with a great company, sharing soup, hot chocolate, stories, frozen moments.
Sure aurora wasn’t that strong but the magic of the trip was here.
As I am a student and a solo travel , I felt very secured with her, like family..
Search no more. You’ve found you’re guide. Amazing experience. Comfortable, lots of good pictures and Marianne will do anything for you to have the best experience.
We ended up on Marianne’s tour by accident- our tour guide had to cancel on us and set us up with Marianne. While I’m sure the other company would have been good, I feel like this change of events was in our favor. Not only was the tour incredibly special, Marianne was amazing and I feel like I’ve known her my whole life! We ended up having a private tour and bopping around the outer islands, trying to find breaks in the clouds. While it was pretty crummy weather, Marianne still managed to find us breaks in the clouds and we caught a few special glimpses of the aurora. With crazy weather, I was worried we wouldn’t see anything, but she knew how and where to find it and capture it on film. I can’t wait to get home and download my photos! Overall, I really cannot say enough wonderful things about Marianne and our trip, except a heartfelt thank you and I can’t wait to come back and go out chasing with you again!!
Out of this world
We can not thank Marianne enough- this was the best day of our lives (other than wedding day) Marianne picked us up at dock (we was on a cruise ship) and away we went- we drove in the middle of the wilderness, unfortunately I couldn’t go to Mariannes log cabin on the lake- because of my disability- instead she drove my husband and I up the start of a mountain- we was the only ones around and out of nowhere there was the Aurora in all her finery- colours/shapes/Size. Months on and years to come we will live with the joy of what we witnessed. Marianne is local, experienced-kept us warm, fed us- coming back down the mountain side-we even saw reindeers. Marianne is passionate about the Aurora this is not a job this is her life- the one thing to remember this is a natural wonder and Is not guarenteed- however Marianne will do everything she can to drive to the right location to see it.
Marianne is a professional photographer with copious amount of equipment- will direct you for that perfect photo and give you a copy of everything she took- STUNNING.
THANK YOU MARIANNE

Marianne’s Aurora Tour was an amazing way to see the northern lights but also the Norwegian landscape at night! We loved it so much, we did two more nights and a Fjord day tour. Marianne is an incredible person and does not disappoint! Highly recommend you take these tours. With so many tour options in Tromsø, this is by far the best way to get more than you bargain for!
I chose a tour with Marianne based on a recommendation from another traveller and was not disappointed. The weather in Tromsø had been quite poor for a number of days, so the tour ended up driving to Kilpisjärvi in Finland.
Marianne, George and Sarah were all excellent Arctic guides and experienced in Aurora chasing and photography. The tour was casual, friendly and informative throughout.
They will look after you very well, drive carefully and loan you all equipment you need to stay safe and have a great time. You will be offered food and drink as part of the tour, and a warm campfire is a nice focal point to gather and be sociable with your guides and the rest of your group.
They’ll also help you set up your camera for low light Aurora photography, or hire you a DSLR and advise you if you don’t have a camera of your own.
All in all, a really great service from lovely people. I would definitely recommend one of Marianne’s tours to anyone visiting Tromsø.
Don’t choose anyone else!
This is a personal small group tour by experienced professionals who understand both the Northern Lights and photography.
Avoid the big coach trips, the boats and the inexperience upstarts and you will have the very best chance of seeing the lights.
Marianna and her team work so hard to make every evening great, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are not only incredibly experienced, but lovely people who can’t do enough to make your evening wonderful.
We are keen amateur photographers, and having a team of equally keen photographers to find the best places to create wonderful backdrops to the lights is brilliant.. The local knowledge Marianne has is absolutely priceless.
The drivers are careful, the equipment is great and we are filled with delicious soup, sandwiches, toasted marshmallows, hot chocolate …. and of course, George’s whisky!
This is our third year out with Marianne and her Team, and we will be back again as soon as we can.
The Aurora is a natural phenomenon, and can be unpredictable, but Marianne’s team will keep driving until they find that gap in the cloud. Even when the lights don’t come out to play you can be sure of a really lovely experience.
If you’re hunting for the Northern Lights, Marianne offers an exceptional & unique experience.
As an experienced low-light photographer, she was able to give us all the advice we needed for us to ‘get the shot’. We sincerely thank her for everything.
Joanne & Graham
We went looking for the Aurora and Marianne and George did a great job. Delicious campfire style food (top homemade soup George 👍). Extra socks and snow suit were a great addition as were the camera tripods and photography tutorials. Much more of a personal tour than others provide. George is was very scientific with his analysis of when and where the Aurora was likely to appear. Top choice, highly recommend.
Just completed five days adventuring with Marianne. Myself and 3 friends had a brilliant time and just can’t believe the things we’ve seen. Norway is a magical venue for a winter holiday and Marianne made it all the more amazing with her help, advice and kindness. We spent 2 nights in her cabin, a day touring and an evening chasing the Aurora. The images and memories we all have as we return to Scotland will remain with us for many years.
We really appreciate everything you two have done to us..We booked a Norhernlight tour at the end of january 2020. It was a very well organized tour and guided by Marianne and Sarah. Marianne and Sarah did take a lot of time and passion for every guest to help them to find the best setting on the camera. We were that much fascinated of the scenery of the nothernlight, so we decided to book e second tour three days after. It was absolutly the right decision. We have seen a great and really amazing spectacle. We nearly forgot to enjoy the bonfire and the dinner(very kind prepared homemade soup and sandwiches) in the cosy warm hut. In this nights they took us to diferent spots to watch and take pictures of the aurora borealis.
Marianne and Sarah helped us to realize a great dream.
We can highly recomend a aurora chaser tour by Marianne and Sarah.
Thank you very much and all the best to you.
Even though the Tromsø sky was overcast with clouds and made it difficult to see auroras, the experience with Marianne was wonderful, safe and warm. She was a careful and safe driver, she took care of our snowsuits and made a warm campfire for us to wait for the auroras. Marianne brought us, sausages, soup, homemade cheese sandwiches, marshmallows and hot chocolate. She’s great with cameras and will help you get lovely photos too! If you’re looking for an aurora tour, its definitely worth paying for one where you’ll get a taste of Marianne’s warm Norwegian hospitality, not some commercial tour!
I went to Tromsø for only one night and joined the Aurora chase tours. It is really really lucky for me to see the Aurora successfully. The guide Marianne is an outstanding person. She is enthusiastic, energetic, kind, persistence and helpful. Apart from the Aurora chase, she introduced every part of villages we passed and the myth of Norwegian trolls. Also, they provide coat, gloves, boots and decent food in the camp. Furthermore, she explained the Aurora intensity, magnetic field strength and the genesis of Aurora. Absolutely amazing trip. If you want to have an awesome Aurora trip, don’t hesitate find them. Learn the Aurora, see the Aurora and photo the Aurora with this chase tour.
If you are looking for a great photography tour by a tour guide who is passionate and works hard to get you the great views, book with Marianne. She simply outworked the others and knows the area (being a local with a long family heritage around Tromso) very well. With this knowledge, she knows which spots offer the best views and understands how the light changes during the year and where to find clear sky.
I have now taken several day tours and Aurora chases with Marianne and her team over the past two years and have been impressed each time. While she can’t control the weather or the lights, she can set you up for success and works hard doing it. I’ve found she is an honest tour operator that gives you your money’s worth and I can’t ask more than that.
Booked a trip for a night chasing tour for northern lights with Marianne. Amazing…absolutely amazing. The locations that Marianne takes you too are breathtaking. YES we want to see Aurora but let me tell you…even if you didn’t see her dance…the views alone are SPECTACULAR. Marianne is very passionate about the northern lights, and has been so very many many years. She goes the extra mile and does everything she can to show you different spots throughout Tromso to get the best pictures. Super impressed with her knowledge, and her commitment to satisfying her clients. Note that her company provides artic snowsuits, boots, cameras, headlamps, tripods, the works. Some of it you have to rent (such as camera/tripod if you don’t bring your own) and some of it is just part of the package- snowsuit, etc. BOOK Marianne today. She is AMAZING! Can’t forget Sara…total sweetie pie and very dedicated to making sure your adventure is the best it can be. Book book book! Marianne goes above and beyond. It’s that simple.
We did two chase tours with Marianne in March (after really enjoying one last year with her too). George joined our first tour this year, and although we didn’t see the lights, we still had a great time. They are experienced aurora chasers, and have all the equipment, knowledge and know-how you could possibly need. George explained that there was a solar storm forecast, and while the weather conditions were not good in Tromsø, we were heading to Sweden to find clear skies and hopefully the aurora. As it happens, the aurora didn’t show that night, but, we were kept safe, warm and well looked after and entertained. We took ‘light’ word images in the dark, drank some of George’s whisky, and had sandwiches and hot soup. We learnt how to use our cameras. Yes, it’s disappointing when the aurora doesn’t show, but it’s a natural phenomenon, and really no different than going on safari and not seeing a lion! You can’t pick a date with nature! If the aurora is there, Marianne and George will find it – no doubt about it!
On our last night in Tromsø, Marianne messaged to say conditions looked good for aurora hunting. We leapt at the chance of another chase, and headed out towards Finland, as again, the conditions in Tromsø were too poor for aurora viewing. I love the no-nonsense adventurous spirit Marianne has, that sets her apart from other, bigger tours. She will drive for as long, and as far as it takes. Also, I’m generally quite a nervous passenger, but Marianne’s driving is excellent. The roads were icy, but I never once felt nervous at all – believe me, that is no mean feat! She really did make me feel safe and comfortable.
On this tour, we saw a magnificent aurora – reds, purples, pinks, greens, and full-on corona in incredible forms. It was breathtaking.
When the freezing cold (-14!) defeated the in-laws and their camera battery, Marianne very kindly took their memory card and took photos for them with her own camera. She is incredibly kind, and was very concerned for everyone’s welfare – making sure we were all warm enough, etc She also provided a lovely warm soup and vegetarian sausages, as well as hearty cheese sandwiches, to eat beside the fire.Marianne’s.
Marianne’s Cabin Review’s
By renting the little cabin, Marianne opened the door to their little paradise. In their place you will feel love, real nature and one of the most beautiful landscape ever, even the drive to and from Tromso is breathtaking.
For people seeking a true experience in nature this is the perfect place.
The cabin is remote, a step back in time, no mod cons and this is it’s beauty. A cosy, warm little haven in the beautiful wild.
It is well thought out – all the instructions given by Marianne and noted around the cabin ensure your stay is seamless and answers all the questions you might have – it is important to listen to them, especially as you are in the middle of the wild, responsible for your own warmth and staying in someone’s home.
You are stepping back in time, at one with nature. This is a magical place.
Marianne and George are kind and welcoming people. In the middle of an area flooded with guides and tourists and impersonal experiences they are a true find.
Passionate about nature and the aurora, experts in the region (Marianne is a local).
If you’re looking for other experiences whilst staying in the area – they are the perfect people to ask (especially aurora hunting).
Going to the cabin is a truly unique experience.
We are leaving with stars in our eyes and will definitely return.
The cabin is in a great location in the woods – a short walk from the road. There is a beautiful view of the lake from the window and a short walk up the hill behind the cabin will provide a magnificent view of the local Fjords and Mountains. It was the place we spent hours at night watching the Northern Lights. The cabin itself is basic but very comfortable with a fire that heats it and the water that is needed. Candles provide the atmosphere. The sauna is up the hill a little and is lovely to relax in. Marianne was a wonderful host and arranged for our transport to and from the cabin – stopping at the supermarket on the way for supplies. A couple of tips – bring rucksacks for the trip up the hill and also be prepared to enjoy the extremes of nature as the cabin has all you need but you will need to be prepared to live with the basics while you are there.
